FaceMatch Privacy Policy
Last updated: 22 August 2026
This policy explains what FaceMatch collects, why, and what control you have. It is written to be read, not skimmed.
1. Your signup selfie
When you take or upload a selfie during signup:
- The image is sent securely to our own servers and processed once, for two purposes: to facilitate FaceMatch's onboarding process, and to help confirm you meet our 18+ age requirement. The processing happens entirely on our servers; the selfie is not sent to any third-party.
- The photo itself is not retained. It is discarded after processing and is never shown to other users (unless you separately choose to add the same photo to your profile photos).
- What we store: the image you provide is deleted from our servers. No data is retained from the image you supply.
- What we do with them: the photo is used for verification and onboarding purposes only.
- This is not facial recognition. The verification process cannot be used to recognise or identify you, on FaceMatch or anywhere else, and we never use it for identification, account status or surveillance of any kind.
- What we don't do: we do not sell your face data, do not share it with advertisers, and do not use it to train machine-learning models.
- Retention and deletion: the image (and any data associated with you) is deleted immediately and permanently when you delete your account (Settings → Delete account), along with everything else. You can also redo the scan at any time, which replaces the previous data going forward.
2. Other information we collect
- Account: your name, email address and authentication identifiers from Apple or Google sign-in (managed by our authentication provider, Clerk).
- Profile: name, birth date (to verify you are 18+ and show your age), gender, who you want to meet, bio, and the photos you choose.
- Location (required to browse): approximate coordinates, once you grant location permission, used to show distance and filter by proximity. Other users see distance, never your coordinates — we never publish or share a precise position. Location comes from your device's GPS only, never from your IP address. Because FaceMatch shows you people near you, browsing needs this permission; without it your matches and messages remain fully available but no new profiles can be suggested.
- Activity: likes, passes, matches and the messages you send (messages are stored so your conversations work across devices).
- Purchases: subscription status from Apple/RevenueCat. We never see your card details.
- Device: a push-notification token if you enable notifications.
3. How information is used
To operate matching, chat, safety tooling (reports and blocks), payments and support; to enforce our Terms; and to comply with law. We do not sell personal information and we do not show third-party advertising.
4. Sharing
- Other users see your profile: name, age, bio, photos and distance.
- Service providers that host our infrastructure and process payments (hosting/database, Clerk for sign-in, Apple and RevenueCat for subscriptions) receive only what they need to provide their service.
- We disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety of users or the public (for example, reports of harm).
5. Your rights and controls
- Delete everything: Settings → Delete account permanently removes your profile, photos, verification data, matches, messages and push tokens.
- Access and correction: edit your profile in-app; for a copy of your data or corrections you can't make yourself, email us.
- Australian users have rights under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including complaint to the OAIC. Users elsewhere may have equivalent rights (e.g. GDPR access/erasure); we honour deletion and access requests from everyone.
6. Security and retention
Data is encrypted in transit, stored in access-controlled databases, and retained only while your account exists, except: safety reports about a profile are retained after that profile is deleted (so moderation history survives), and payment records are retained as required by tax law.
7. Children
FaceMatch is strictly 18+. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18 and we delete accounts that appear to belong to minors — report them in-app.
8. Changes
Material changes to this policy will be announced in the app before they take effect.
9. Contact
Privacy questions and data requests: use the form at https://facematch.live/support (monitored), or write to safety@exitapp.social.
